On Car camera...whats the best out there?

Postby Thehites » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:45 am

We are wanting to get a on car camera (video) for this upcoming season & want to get some opinions on what other drivers have used & have had good luck with. Give us some suggestions....tell us good or bad about your experiences.

I use the rca ez201, I just just duct tape it to the frame whereever I want. Its cheap but not very reliable, it dont like rough tracks and usually shuts off if its to rough or a sharp vibration but for what I paid I aint complaining.

Ive had about one of every type of in car camera, so i know the pro's and cons. The go pro is the best bang for your buck. Not the HD one tho. The HD one is like $300 plus then you have to buy the mount kit and then shipping so youve spent close to $400 just got get it to where you can use it. I have both the HD and the motorsports version. The motorsports version works great BUT it sucks the juice out of batteries really bad. The HD has a rechargeable one so thats good, but for the extra cash i personally dont think its worth it. You can find one of the motorsports versions on Ebay for like $150 plus then buy your mount kit and i would say your at maybe $200 after shipping. Plus you have to buy a memory card for both of them but the HD one will take up to a 4gb card and the other one will only take a 2gb card. Honestly if i was in the market I would go with the motorsports version just for cost reasons. However if you have the extra cash laying around then the HD is a great camera. I own both of them and they both work pretty good and Go Pro's customer service is great. I might also suggest buying an extra case cause one of my camera's got smoked with a rock at Macon last year and cracked the lens on the case. If ya got any questions give me a shout thru my e-mail and ill try and help ya out. trmmotorsports35@yahoo.com . Also if anyone wants ill have my cameras at DuQoin I can make ya a highlight video not sure on what the price will be yet.

Definitely the ContourHD camera made by VHold. I got this for Christmas for 200 on Ebay. It has great quality recording with either HD or SD options.

I have owned them all. Like said above, the GoPro can get expensive quick. Batteries, SD Card, and Mounts....they all add up! If your track doesn't have good lighting the GoPro will be a big dissappointment for you! It's not the good in low light, in fact, it's terrible. The Vholdr is a great camera, but also pricey when it comes to buying what you need, plus research the problems they have had with it. The Small wonder is a great camera, but mounting can be difficult, time consuming, and ineffective at best.

We tested all of these at some point, took them apart, researched side by side, and took the best pieces of all of them to make our own system. We sell this system and have been for quite some time. You get EVERYTHING..No buying mounts or sd cards, or fiddling with duct tape and zip ties trying to hold a camera designed to film little Timmy's birthday party.

I went to school for 4 years in Television production with a Bachelor's degree and have worked around cameras most of my adult life. We have designed, tested, and built a system that gives you good footage everytime and lasts longer than anything else. We have raced mini-sprints for several years and know what it takes. We have flipped it on full size sprint cars, jumped it on ATV's, and even watched as it took a gasoline bath. It works great in low light and can take the abuse, rocks, vibration, and mud that it will see every weekend. It's affordable and comes with GREAT support directly from our company. We have sponsored Maximumdirt several times and they even own one of our systems. Several Sprint car teams use these including several on the WoO tour. Check our system out today, we even have low light videos and wrecks on our website for you to enjoy. http://www.SportActionCam.com
