Belleville, IL – The 2018 POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League schedule is officially set, featuring 23 events. As was the case in 2017, the Micro League will head to I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the Fifth Annual Turnpike Challenge, featured alongside the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League and the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League. 2017’s showing at I-44 was the “Frank Show” with Frank Galusha taking the opening night, followed by Frank Flud in victory lane for night two.
New for 2018, the Micros will head to Jacksonville Speedway for a doubleheader weekend on April 6th and 7th. Dubbed the Spring Nationals, the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League will share the slate with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League and the POWRi WAR Sprint Car League for the weekend.
The 27th Annual Knepper Memorial is now scheduled for Friday, April 20th. The 26th Annual Knepper Memorial saw a breakthrough for Jason McDougal, who took a career-first at Belle-Clair Speedway. McDougal most recently came away from the Tulsa Shootout with three golden drillers out of four classes entered, a never-before accomplished feat.
The Southern Illinois Shootout weekend has been moved up earlier in the season, with Friday, May 18th kicking off the weekend at Belle-Clair Speedway, followed up with Southern Illinois Raceway on Saturday, May 19th. 2017’s finale saw Harley Hollan capture a career-first with the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League, taking the checkers over Frank Flud and Joe B. Miller.
A little over two weeks later, the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League will take to the big scene for the Seventh Annual Illinois SPEED Week, hosting five consecutive nights of racing. Belle-Clair Speedway returns and will anchor the opening night of Illinois SPEED Week on Wednesday, June 6th. The League will then head to Fayette County Speedway for night two on Thursday, June 7th and then to Jacksonville Speedway on Friday, June 8th before Macon Speedway on Saturday, June 9th. Illinois SPEED Week will conclude on Sunday, June 10th at Lincoln Speedway.
Other highlights of the 2018 season include the Belle Vegas Bash set for Saturday, June 29th and the inaugural showing of the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro League at the Second Annual Thunder in the Valley on July 13th and 14th. Thunder in the Valley displayed superb racing with the POWRi Lucas Oil National, West, and Outlaw Midget Leagues in 2017.
2018 will continue to be dotted with key events of the League’s traditional schedule, including the Camfield Memorial at Macon Speedway on Saturday, August 19th, the Herb Barlow Memorial on Friday, September 7th at Jacksonville Speedway, and the Charlene Meents Memorial on Saturday, September 29th.
The League will round out 2018 and the quest for the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series championship at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Illinois on Saturday, October 13th in the “Battle at the Bullring,” after running at Jacksonville Speedway the previous night.
